Here in Houston we’ve been enjoying some beautiful weather lately! When it’s nice outside, I enjoy nothing more than getting out in nature to get some exercise and unwind from the craziness of the workweek. Lately, I’ve been venturing out to try out new locations for my walks with my trusty dog, Sydney, and I wanted to share some of these “hidden gems” with you!

Brazos Bend State Park: This park is amazing!! Talk about stepping out into nature. Once you’re there, it feels like you are hours away from any city. Here, you can check out wildlife in it’s natural habitat and enjoy some peace and quiet. There are gators wandering about, so keep an eye out! (don’t worry, they won’t bite unless you give them a reason to!)

Armand Bayou Nature Center: I haven’t been to this one yet, but it’s on my list! This is a great place to watch flowers bloom and go on guided hikes. The website lists all types of activities that go on here, so check it out!

Memorial Park: If you don’t want to drive too far for a hike, Memorial Park is a great place to go!

Mercer Arboretum: Another place I haven’t been to yet, but I’ll definitely have to check it out this Fall! This arboretum is only 22 miles north of downtown Houston near IAH. Complete with picnic areas, gardens, walking trails, bogs and playgrounds, Mercer Arboretum sounds like the perfect place to go for a fun-filled day.

If none of these locations catch your eye, check out the Texas Parks & Wildlife website for some more great options! http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/parks/things-to-do/hiking-in-state-parks

Happy Trails, Houston!
