{"id":158,"date":"2013-07-12T02:24:15","date_gmt":"2013-07-12T02:24:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trainfit.com\/blog\/?p=158"},"modified":"2013-07-12T02:24:15","modified_gmt":"2013-07-12T02:24:15","slug":"the-power-of-goal-setting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trainfit.com\/blog\/the-power-of-goal-setting\/","title":{"rendered":"The Power of Goal Setting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you are working to stay in shape, or get in shape, it is good to challenge yourself with a goal to motivate you.\u00a0 It is great to schedule your workouts and follow the routine, but to get yourself out of your normal routine is always good.\u00a0 The thing I have always loved about working out is the sense of accomplishment I feel each time&#8230;.YES each time I do it.\u00a0 It does not matter whether I ran my 3 miles or lifted weights, I always have a sense of pride and success when I am done.<\/p>\n<p>Setting a goal\u00a0to finish\u00a0a 5K, 10K,\u00a0 a Mud Run, or even a 1\/2 Marathon or Marathon may seem impossible, but I say no it is not.\u00a0 If you have\u00a0ever thought, &#8220;Oh I could never do that!&#8221;\u00a0 then now is the time to do just that.\u00a0 Whether is a 5K or a Marathon, set that goal, pick the race and start training.\u00a0 YOU can do it.\u00a0 Now is the time.\u00a0 Find some buddies and do it together.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, Okay, I know I lost some of you at 5K.\u00a0 If you have never been a runner, I know the thought of running 3.1 miles sound crazy.\u00a0 I am thinking more of the training you would do to get to the end result.\u00a0 How many calories you will burn, how consistent you cardio will become.\u00a0When you are done just think of the shape you will be in. \u00a0It gives you the motivation to stay focused, stay consistent, and achieve something you thought impossible.\u00a0 That is something you will never regret.<\/p>\n<p>Now let me suggest something to you.\u00a0\u00a0If you\u00a0are a walker then\u00a0try to build into running a 5K.\u00a0\u00a0If you are neither, then work to walk the 5K.\u00a0 \u00a0I am a runner at heart, and have been running consistently my whole life.\u00a0 Since I was 10 I have loved running.\u00a0 Every year for the last 11 years I have found at least one race to sign up for each year.\u00a0 For the last\u00a03 years I have\u00a0gone from 1\/2 Marathons\u00a0to Marathons.\u00a0 This keeps me motivated and driven to\u00a0keep moving forward. \u00a0Now I understand running is not for everyone, but I love walking equally.\u00a0 In fact walking is my therapy.\u00a0 I walk with no music, no distractions, just my thoughts.\u00a0 I feel like I discover a little more about who I am\u00a0when I walk outside, one with nature.<\/p>\n<p>Today there are so many programs to follow to go from Couch Potato to 5K in so many weeks, and I think all that is wonderful.\u00a0 It is\u00a0good to\u00a0have a\u00a0guideline to follow, but\u00a0keep in mind everyone is different and there is\u00a0no one size fits all when it comes to training.\u00a0You have to do what works for you and you have to listen to your body during the process.\u00a0 Your body will guide you on how you are doing.<\/p>\n<p>As much as I have trained over the years I have been exposed to many different ways of training.\u00a0 Heart rate monitors, strict programs to follow, Garmin watching to tell you how far you ran, how fast was each mile, etc.\u00a0 Bottom line to reach your goal of a 5K, I am an old fashioned gal.\u00a0 I step outside, push start on my stop watch and walk\/run a loop I love and then stop the timer when I am done.\u00a0 I take note of how long it took me.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t worry about how fast was this mile verses that mile.\u00a0 I just care about how long did it take to get from point A to B.\u00a0\u00a0Over time my body get faster and faster.\u00a0 The walks\/runs become easier and easier.\u00a0 My body naturally let me know how I am doing.\u00a0 The more you do, the more you body can do.<\/p>\n<p>Keep it simple, face a challenge head on.\u00a0 You will be surprised at how easy it really is.\u00a0 The biggest obstacle to face is not the 5K, it&#8217;s the not trying that will hurt more then the sore muscles and joints in the end.\u00a0 Life is fast and the time is now.<\/p>\n<p>Dolores<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When you are working to stay in shape, or get in shape, it is good to challenge yourself with a goal to motivate you.\u00a0 It is great to schedule your workouts and follow the routine, but to get yourself out of your normal routine is always good.\u00a0 The thing I have always loved about working [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mbp_gutenberg_autopost":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.6 -
