{"id":301,"date":"2014-02-04T01:23:53","date_gmt":"2014-02-04T01:23:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trainfit.com\/blog\/?p=301"},"modified":"2014-02-04T01:23:53","modified_gmt":"2014-02-04T01:23:53","slug":"healthband-and-what-it-did-for-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trainfit.com\/blog\/healthband-and-what-it-did-for-me\/","title":{"rendered":"HealthBand and what it did for me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a new year, and a great time to focus and give yourself a fresh start at your fitness goals.\u00a0 With all the new fads in fitness out there, it can be overwhelming to find something that you will enjoy, and that will fit your lifestyle well.\u00a0 As a trainer I always want to take a look at all the trends coming available for myself and my clients.\u00a0 From fitness equipment, to new gym classes, to heart rate monitors, even training for a run, I have discovered something that I use all day, each and everyday.<\/p>\n<p>It is my\u00a0Up Band from Jawbone.\u00a0 This band I wear around my wrist records all my steps and my sleep.\u00a0 It calculates how many calories I have burned each day.\u00a0 I can also sync it with My Fitness Pal and track my food diary.\u00a0 I am so loving it.<\/p>\n<p>Sleep was a big problem for me.\u00a0 I run and start working early in the morning.\u00a0 My days can start as early as 3:30 am.\u00a0 That has lead me to many 4-5 hours of sleep a night or less.\u00a0 After using\u00a0my Jawbone and monitoring my sleep\u00a0I now get 7-8 hours of sleep per night because I am aware of my sleep history and can make changes.\u00a0 Now that I am aware of my patterns and make the necessary changes, I am a different person.\u00a0 I tried to be very active each day, but with Jawbone I increased my 7000-8000 average steps a day to 14000-15000 average steps a day.\u00a0 Some days I hit 20,000!<\/p>\n<p>I find the awareness is wonderful.\u00a0 Life gets very busy very quickly.\u00a0 The truth is hard to take sometimes, but important to deal with so you can improve your health.\u00a0\u00a0 When you want\u00a0a\u00a0different outcome,\u00a0you must choose\u00a0a different action.\u00a0 First order of business was,\u00a0 I had to make myself a priority in my life. \u00a0I have always\u00a0felt if you want to do your best in your work, relationships, your life in general, you have to\u00a0do your best taking care of you first.\u00a0 You can only deliver what your body is strong\u00a0enough to give.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of just blindly going through the motions of my day, I needed to have a way to stop and see what was really going on with me.\u00a0 If you had asked me months ago if I was taking care of myself I would have said yes.\u00a0 I ran most days,\u00a0 got in my strength training a few days a week.\u00a0 My diet was good.\u00a0 I know now I was not taking great care of myself.\u00a0 I was just on survival mode.\u00a0 Blazing through each day blindly doing the best I felt I could.\u00a0 Head foggy, body in a constant state of fatigue that just seemed normal. \u00a0Getting myself into situations where I was eating when I was starved instead of fueling my body.\u00a0 I truly thought this was as good as I could do.\u00a0 My intentions of what I wanted to do\u00a0was clouding the reality of what I was doing.<\/p>\n<p>Now that I have felt the difference that\u00a0monitoring and awareness can\u00a0give,\u00a0I can not imagine living without my Jawbone.\u00a0 I have worn it for\u00a05 months now and I still love it.\u00a0 It gives me tips of encouragement each day and summaries of my weeks progress.\u00a0 I was so unaware of what I was doing to my body by lack of sleep that it\u00a0lead to poor choices in food, a\u00a0lack of energy\u00a0and the ability\u00a0to take care of myself the way I should. \u00a0I feel on top of my game now that\u00a0my sleep is a priority.
